Precious Metal Clay (PMC) Workshop

Instructor: Denise Leaden
Date: Saturday, March 14th
10 am—1 pm
6 Spaces
Price: $100 + $30 Materials Fee (paid to instructor)

Metal clay is a medium made up of natural, powdered, fair trade, recycled 99.9% fine silver particles, with an organic binder and water. It has a grayish white color and comes in lump or powder form. Purchased in weight value packages.

Working with PMC is similar to clay; roll it out, press textures into it, cut it into shapes, push into molds…the possibilities are endless. In this workshop you will learn techniques for working with PMC. You will be able to create a few pieces (pendants or sets of earrings) in this 3 hr. session.

A second (short) session time will be agreed upon by participants during which fired pieces will be cleaned, given a patina and polished as well as adding findings (ear wires or chains).

Developing Your Personal Style
A Workshop with Jon Townley

May 9th & 10th , 2020
10am-4pm $175

Have you ever noticed how the top ceramic artists have a consistent look to their work?
Are you striving to develop a recognizable style of your own?

This workshop is geared to help you develop a more consistent personal style by identifying your design direction and applying your personal shape language across various forms. During our time together you will be asked to think deeply about how you approach design. My goal is to help you create a more distinct and recognizable look to all of your work.

In this two-day workshop I will demonstrate my throwing and altering techniques for various forms and discuss my approach to developing a unique and consistent shape language across a body of work. My presentation will include visual examples that illustrate the notion of consistent design styling. Students will spend much of the workshop making their own pieces and applying a consistent style to two or more
different forms, such as a mug, a bowl, a plate, etc. We will wrap up with a group critique of the work we’ve created to help us share ideas and focus our future effort. Throughout our time together, I will weave in practical advice to help you formulate your style and manifest it in your art. Come prepared to participate in a lively exchange of ideas.
